Spring Flower show

Greetings! About two weeks ago I went to see the Spring Flower show at Allan Gardens Conservatory. The Conservatory is over 100 years old with a garden-filled greenhouse that is open to the public year-round. Admission is free.

Inside the huge greenhouse, there are five to six sections that contain tropical plants from all over the world, from palm trees to cacti, plus seasonal plantings. The gardeners have done a fantastic job in the garden design and mix of colours. I'm sharing a small selection of my close-up photos below.

Jade vine

Gerbera

Pink orchids

Hydrangea

Agave

Red spray

Cacti

Citrus tree

...to more flowers

Flower wheels

There are about 16,000 square feet of green house space to explore. All the beautiful plants and flowers are yours to enjoy after you enter the Conservatory modest-looking doors.

I hope you enjoy the pictures. The turquoise jade vine bloom was the most unusual to me. Have you seen it before?

  2. Gorgeous flowers and plants Natalie and a lovely way to start the week. When were were in Madrid last year we visited the Botanical Gardens and they were beautiful and there was a magnificent Cacti gardens in Barcelona. I can't select which of your photos are my favorite, I love the orchids but also the cacti. The conservatory is gorgeous isn't it? I must take another look at my Spanish photos. Have a great week!

  4. I'd forgotten how much I loved Spring blooms until we were in France. Where we live we don't really get Spring or Autumn so it was a real treat - as are these pics. That jade vine I've seen in gardening mags, but never for real.

  5. Such gorgeous flowers. I love the fact that admission is free to everyone. For many people, the cost of admission can be a barrier.

    1. I agreed, Jude. I know of other gardens where the entry fees are high. Thankfully, there is a historical condition since 1864 that the Allan Gardens grounds must be publicly accessible and free of charge.

  6. Those flower wheels are gorgeous! You must have had such a good time photographing the flower show. I went to the Chelsea Garden Show (I think that's what it's called?) when I lived in London and loved exploring. #LikeThisWeek

  7. I love flower photos Natalie - you certainly gave me some Spring brightness to offset my Autumn day in the office (although it makes me wish I was outside in the sunshine!)

  8. It's been years since I've been to Allan Gardens, Natalie. I think I should plan a trip for next winter when I'll be craving the smells and sights of flowers. I'm a big fan of Gerbera. Like you, I've never seen the jade vines.

  10. What a beautiful beautiful building and stunning garden! Is the whole garden housed in the Conservatory or do they have outside gardens too?

    1. The flower photos that I took were all inside the 5-6 green house(s). Outside there are big trees and some planted flowers, too. The domed Palm House has been there since 1910. There is a new Children's Conservatory added but it wasn't completely set up yet when I was there. Thanks, Janis, for stopping by.
